A reflection for the day
Answer me when I call to you, O my righteous God. Give me relief from my distress; be merciful to me and hear my prayer.
“It is written: ‘Man does not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.'”
“We must begin to believe that God, in the mystery of prayer, has entrusted us with a force that can move the Heavenly world, and can bring its power down to earth.” Andrew Murray
A reflection on drought (one of several)
Thou art almighty, thou art most powerful and thou art the creator of thou world and all that is in it. Heavenly Father, thou instructed Man to be keepers of thou world we live in, to hath dominion over all things and to subdue thou earth.
Heavenly Father, we are able to see that Man has fallen short in thou expectation, and we are able to see that the way Man lives has caused changes to thou world we live in. We are able to see that some of the effects of these changes are manifesting in our climate, that some of these changes are manifesting in changes to the temperatures of thou oceans, and that some of these changes are altering the jet stream. We are able to see that these changes are responsible for the many droughts experienced by thou nations world-wide and that thou continent of Africa suffers always.
We are able to see that these events are ones that can be addressed by Man. We are able to see that there are programmes and partnerships that are in place to invest in restoration and to maintain Eco systems. We acknowledge the good works of these programmes and partnerships who manage climate change risks by harvesting rain water, by improving the variety of crops, by forestation and by the management of water sources.
Heavenly Father, we ask that thou continue to place opportunities before Mankind to continue with these good works.
Heavenly Father, we acknowledge that there are consequences to droughts that are described as severe. We are able to see that Mankind suffers with hunger and with poverty, and that the consequence of drought and famine is often death.
Heavenly Father, thou art a loving Father and thou art a compassionate Father, and we acknowledge that thou art fully aware of all we face.
Heavenly Father, we are thankful that thou hath promised thou strength, we are thankful that thou hath promised thou grace and we are thankful that thou hath promised thou victory over death through thou triumph and thou glory of thou Son, Our Jesus Christ.
Heavenly Father, it is at this time we uphold to thou in prayer thou people of the many areas in thou world who are afflicted by the experience of drought. We are thankful that there are many charities that provide humanitarian aid, and we ask that opportunities are placed before them to provide humanitarian aid in areas of drought.
Heavenly Father, thou taught us to give and thou taught us to receive encouragement from others and to carry each other’s burdens; we desire that Mankind reflects carefully about those who are less fortunate than ourselves and considers his charitable giving in these cases.
Heavenly Father, it is at this time we reflect upon the need to conserve water in the British Isles. Many of us are able to see that we need to be prudent in our use of water and for many of us that means the need to dispense with the use of hose pipes, and for many of us that means we need to consider if our usage of water is one that is necessary. We hope and we pray that the campaign to raise awareness of the need to save water continues in our primary schools, and we hope and we pray that many will heed the advice that is given.
Heavenly Father, we desire that Mankind is aware of thou world and all that harms thou world. We desire that Mankind makes changes to a life by setting aside a desire to live for today, and by thinking about our tomorrows always.
Heavenly Father, we uphold to thou all that has been spake in thou name of thouself, Our Heavenly Father, and in thou name of thou Son, Our Lord Jesus Christ, and in thou name of thou Holy Spirit, who together with thouself and thou Son, Our Lord Jesus Christ, reigns on most high, and is, and was, and always will be the most supreme and most absolute power and being that governs all of this Earth that we live on, now and always, for evermore.
