A reflection on the exploitation of children

Reflections for the day

Philippians 4:6-7

Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, shall guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

For hundreds of millions of us who believe in God, prayer is our bridge between Earth and Heaven, our way of opening our hearts to the Lord. Through this intimate relationship we find peace and guidance.

A reflection on the exploitation of children

Heavenly Father,

We are able to see that you are intimately concerned with our relationships. We are able to see that your concern is not just for our immediate families and friends but in the structure of society. We are able to see that your concern is how we relate to a great number of others simultaneously.

We thank you, Our Heavenly Father, that you hold in existence people and nations, whether or not they acknowledge or serve you.

We acknowledge that your Scriptures tell Man about the complexities of life, and we acknowledge that your Scriptures tell Man about the way people do not always remain in love or charity with their neighbours. Many of us are able to see that for some  lives are in turmoil, and it is at this time, Our Heavenly Father, we desire to uphold to you all children who have lives that are less fortunate than others.

Heavenly Father, we are able to see that your Son, Our Lord Jesus Christ, welcomed children, and we are able to see that your Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, taught Man to be patient, and we are able to see that your Son, Our Lord Jesus Christ, taught Man to be kind, and we are able to see that your Son, Our Lord Jesus Christ, taught Man to be gentle towards children, and to love and to respect them. We are able to see that all children are best placed in a safe and loving family, and we are able to see that all children must be allowed to grow up in a way that is fitting.

Heavenly Father, we are able to see that many children around the world cannot live a life that is desirous of you. Some of these children do not have homes, some of these children lead lives that can be described as dangerous, and some of these children lead lives that words cannot describe. Many of these children lead lives that can only be described as exploited.

Heavenly Father, we hope and we pray that Mankind will turn a back on many of the things that lead these children to lead the lives that they do. We hope and we pray that Mankind will turn towards you, and reflect carefully on all sins and repent.

Heavenly Father, we acknowledge that the children we are concerned about can be described as vulnerable. Heavenly Father, it is at this time we acknowledge the good works of the many children’s charities that help these children and we ask that you continue to place opportunities before these charities so that the issues of which we are concerned about can be addressed.

Heavenly Father, we thank you that you sent into your world your only begotten Son, Our Lord Jesus Christ, and that your Son, Our Lord Jesus Christ, died for Man to show Man the way to you.

Heavenly Father, your Son, Our Lord  Jesus Christ, died a death that has been described as agonising, and your Son, Our Lord  Jesus Christ, died a death that has been described as one of suffering. We ask you, in the name of your Son, Our Lord Jesus Christ, to heal all children who can be described as exploited, and may they draw comfort and strength from your presence, and may they draw comfort and strength from your healing power.

Heavenly Father, we pray that your power and mightiness can be invoked in places where there are vulnerable children. We ask you to help Mankind to reflect carefully on the need to be more concerned for others, and we ask you to help Mankind to reflect carefully upon the need to love our neighbour.

Heavenly Father, you are almighty, and you are most powerful, and you are the creator of all things known and unknown to Man. We ask that we can draw closer to you in all aspects of our lives, we are thankful that we can seek comfort from you and we ask that we can seek guidance from you always.

Heavenly Father, we uphold to you now all that has been said in the name of yourself, Our Heavenly Father, and in the name of your Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, and in the name of your Holy Spirit, who together with your Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, reigns on most high, and is the advocate for all who are of this world that we live in, now and always, for evermore.

Amen.

As a mother, grandmother and step great-grandmother, the joy of children is with me always and this prayer reflects the sadness that I feel when one hears stories of neglected children, not only abroad but in our own community/country. With all the education on child care, there are still parents who neglect to bring up their children with love. They neglect to create a safe, structured environment in which they can learn right from wrong, They then grow up to bring children into the world without the grounding of good parenting in their own childhood. I pray that, with our Lord’s guidance, this can be remedied.
