A reflection on putting others first

Reflection for the day

John 12:27-28 ”Now is my soul troubled. And what shall I say? ‘Father, save me from this hour’? But for this purpose I have come to this hour. Father, glorify your name.” Then a voice came from heaven: “I have glorified it, and I will glorify it again.”

A reflection on putting others first

Our Heavenly Father,

Heavenly father there are times when we need guidance on the requirement of putting others first before ourselves. Many of us are able to see that the world we live in is not the one that God created. We know and understand that God gave us the world that we live in but also gave us a freedom of will. Some of us are able to see that much of what is happening in the world is abhorrent to God and some of us are hoping that Man can see the error of his ways and make the changes needed to live a God inspired life.

Much of what is happening in the world is seen as materialistic. Much of what is happening in the world has a basis of greed. Much of what is happening in parts of the world is violent in nature. We are able to see that many of our journalists have a role to play in our society as much of what they report allows us to consider the plight of others. We know that many of our journalists put their lives at risk to enable us to understand what is happening in the world. Some of these journalists have died so that the demise of others can be reported.

During Lent we consider the life and death of Our Lord Jesus. It is at this time that we reflect on the nature of his death. We are able to see clearly that he made a sacrifice and that this sacrifice has enabled us to draw closer to God. Many of us regard Our Lord Jesus as selfless and many of us wish to emulate this quality. We are able to see clearly that our ways are self-driven and we are able to see clearly that there is a need to change our ways.

Heavenly Father, we hope and pray at this time we can look inward and reflect on the error of our ways. Heavenly Father, we are able to see that if we love you with all our heart, soul, mind and strength we are able to put others first. Heavenly Father, these words are offered to you knowing that you are a God that hears us, knowing that you are able to guide us and knowing that thy path towards thy eternal light is a straight and narrow one, now and always.

Amen.

  1. We should also think of those who are fighting for their freedom from oppression and give the Security Council of the UN and politicians the wisdom needed to combat these issues. The ordinary people are themselves making sacrifices for the sake of their local communities.
We pray that these conflicts are soon resolved.
